We arrived at the show early and the venue was standing room only. I wasn't sure if it would be like a Weird Al concert, or if Afroman would have some serious songs.
I was only familiar with one of his songs, but I decided to go to the concert anyway and had node idea what to expect. My friend told me he had tickets to see Afroman in concert and asked if I wanted to join. He thanks them with a huge smile on his face, performs a quick, flawless rendition of 'Crazy Rap' and leaves the stage having proved his point. When he does break out the mega-hit, the crowd turns into a supporting choir and sings along at deafening volume 'BECAUSE I GOT HIGH, BECAUSE I GOT HIGH, BECAUSE I GOT HIGH'. However away from this he has an impossible amount of albums and tonight he is very much intent on proving to the audience he is far more than a one trick pony as he performs complex verses during 'Palmdale' whilst he encourages the crowd to sway along during the sunny 'Let's All Get Drunk'. Many know Afroman for his one breakout single which ended up being an international hit, 'Because I Got High'. This is partly down to his charm and quick wit that can make a 100 strong crowd burst into simultaneous laughter. Having worked the live circuit for years, the rapper is a real showman and never fails to build rapport even with the most disinterested or hostile crowds.

He never managed to achieve the success of that release commercially yet he continued to consistently release full length albums along with other material that surfaced online. He went on to sign a six album deal with Universal who released a compilation record titled 'The Good Times' which included picks from the rapper's first two LPs and some new material. Leading on from this, the rapper went on the join the line up of Cypress Hill's 'Smoke Out' festival. The song went on to become a worldwide hit in late 2001, it was featured in several high profile films including The Perfect Score, Disturbia and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, to add to the accolades the single went on to earn Afroman a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002. The title track was later played on The Howard Stern Show. The latter produced his second record 'Because I Got High', it's main promotional methods were touring and the file sharing site Napster. In 1998, Afroman released his first full length album 'My Fro-losophy', he later relocated to Mississippi where he met drummer Jody Stallone, Bass player Darrell Havard and future producer Tim Ramenofsky. He showed signs of musical interests when he sold his first tape whilst in the eighth grade featuring a rap about a teacher who got Foreman removed from the school for sagging his pants. The rapper and musician is best known for his hit single 'Because I Got High' which was released in 2001.
